Private Class at Elderberry Place

Had a privately booked class last nite at Elderberry.  It was a lot of fun and went a little too long, but these girls were really getting into their LAYERS ... they were purposeful w/ colors and shapes ... and they came up w/ beautiful creations. Yes I managed to remember to take pics ... but my camera sux. (possibly time for a new one???)

They really had a great time ... and want to have another class now that they 'understand' the process better.  Mixed Media really does have a specific process if you're headed to a certain outcome.  In this case they were going to be masking (covering up) the bulk of their base painting in order to highlight a specific shape (flower / heart / leaves, etc).

What I should have done w/ this type of class is tell then where exactly they are headed (which they had seen in the example but it didn't "sink" in) so they would be placing certain patterns, etc in the right spots to be highlighted when they masked and white washed.

We went way too long, but we had one that was running late so we tried to wait for her ... lesson learned ... we need the 2 hours sometimes.  LOL

And ...... I think I need instruction on how to teach Mixed Media.

Easter / Spring at Elderberry Place

So I have put some new items in my booth at Elderberry:

These are plastic eggs paper mache'd with torn gell prints and hearts of faith, love, joy, hope -- set of 4 in a green cardboard egg carton packaged w/ a gift tag if someone wants to give as a gift! I love them!

'

These are 3x3 painted wood PEEPS! I made about 8 of them in various color combinations. Again, they have a gift tag ready to go!

And these are the 'Spring Collection' ... LOL ... I made 6 of the 5x6 flower pot ones and just one of the 'Paint Your Dream' and 'Sweet Harmony'. LOVE LOVE LOVE the bright colors. They are gelli prints cut into shapes ... they really pop on the black background!!

And FINALLY ... these are 3x3 chunkyart pieces that I had done for the one and ONLY craft show I ever did ... my daughter found them in the studio a couple weeks ago and said SELL THESE!!!!!!!! So up to the booth they went! Bright colors ... just right for spring!

New Studio Progress!!!

So Saturday my stepson came over to work along side his dad in the basement ... it's so great that he offers and loves doing it ... and he's GOOD too! LOL

It was Grandpa's idea to cut out the area under the stairs as a cubby for the grandkids to nestle in w/ a book or crayons if they grew weary of our art project (we have a wide range of ages so the little ones get restless pretty quick). I loved the idea but didn't want to add work and cost ... and so now we have this (ala Grandpa!):

Could NOT be more adorable (in my mind of course). I see twinkle lights across the ceiling as their lighting, big plush bright colored pillows, chalkboard wall ... and of course carpeting for comfort!

So this week we can finally call the trash hauler guys and they will come and drag all the crap up from the basement, put it in their dumpster and take it away ... and THEN I will be using masking tape on the floor to measure off the furniture in my current studio to see where it will go in the new area!

We have one more set of studs to remove b/4 we can have the carpet guys come out (the door for the future 1/2 bath), but the Home Depot Free Installation special runs thru 5 April, so we will be ready by then fer sur!!! GOOOOOOOD TIMES!!!

Wanderlust Fail

Well I am 8 weeks into Wanderlust 2017 workshops ... and am incredibly disappointed. Maybe it's me ... I'm just NOT inspired to create, the videos are not nearly as "how to" as I thought they'd be ... and truthfully they aren't any different than the millions you can find online ... and on youtube.

I'm very sorry to say I cannot recommend the year long workshop to anyone ... however I'm going to keep that button on the left of my blog ... cauz I AM a member, and I did try the classes. I will continue to look at each week's lesson and see what I can get from it. Maybe something miraculous will happen along the way!
