New Chapter in Art Life

So after messing around w/ this blog for DAYS now ... I think it's 'changed over' to my new status! Gotta love tech!

This blog got re-named "Studio Soup" because of my twin grandsons. When they were just learning to talk they had a Grandma Cindy and a Grandma Sue. They didn't say "Sue" ... they said "Soup" and it was so funny. I have a friend that refers to me as Soup now, and so I decided to re-name the blog "Studio Soup". I love it!

So my business has changed from Moss Creek Lane Designs to SuzannaBooneDesigns. I'm planning to focus more on art, and am currently crushing on abstract art. WHO KNEW?!?! When you catch a glimpse of someone working an abstract canvas, it just pulls you in ... the mixing and overlapping of gorgeous color, the mark making with various tools, more overlapping of colors ... adding shapes ... it's a wonderful process that I can't wait to start working on!

I've started following Betty Krause Art and loving what she does ... and I NEED to have a paint wall like she has:

I have cleared a wall spot in what was the old studio (and believe me a full wall is hard to find down there these days!) and will be putting up a paint cloth, some heavy wood screws into studs and be ready to sling some paint on some bigger canvases. FUN!

That's all the long-term dream -- so in the meantime I'm working on cleaning and re-organizing the studio at large to make it more functional. I will also still be doing a few classes. I have a private studio class coming up next month, and have put in a class proposal for Summer Art Sampler for Adults sponsored by the Crossroads Art Council (where I had submitted 3 pieces of my art for an art show last winter -- my first one!!!). That's in June 2020. I haven't been accepted yet, but the lady that receives the applications wrote back "I want to take your class. I love your work". ooooh!! I feel a YES coming! :-)

Packing Art Suppies for Vacation!

We are headed to Mexico in a few days so I am packing up some supplies to take along and do art!  I am not a beach bum like my husband, who can lay comatose in the sun for hours on end.  I have had skin cancer, so I'm a more of a 'stay in the shadows' kinda gal.  Works great for me anyway cauz I truly am unable to just lay on the beach for any period of time -- I get restless and need to change up the venue.

This year I am taking a few supplies to work on my new obsession -- Pallette Knife Painting!  I have printed off a few ideas to take along as samples to work from and plan on honing my skills while my hubby bakes in the sun.  We will have a swim up room, so I can work off our patio .... but there is also an outside bar and restaurant right on the beach w/ some tables and chairs sit up along that area to just chill.  I do plan on setting up shop there a few times just to be out in the mix ... and near the bar.  LOL LOL

In addition to working on my projects, there is a wonderful tradition I have come to love -- pottery painting!  There's a guy that sits up shop under a palapa by the busy pool with all the pottery and supplies you can imagine ... I can begin a project w/ him on Day 1 and go by there and work on it for an hour or so over the next few days.  He will fire and glaze it for me the day b/4 we are set to leave and I have a one of a kind piece of artwork to take home!  I have done it the past 3 years, and now I'm stuck up enough to bring my own brushes (his have been pretty abused over the years).

Very excited to be having some pure art time in paradise (provided Isaac doesn't blow thru and reek havoc)  Hopefully I will come back w/ fresh ideas and designs as we head into the holiday season!

I love a rainy day ....

Ahhhh .... I really DO love a rainy day where I don't have to get out in it!  I can just snuggle in w/ my coffee and my art table.

FINISHED STUDIO!

Whoop Whoop!!!  This studio remodel has really been a labor of love from my sweet sweet husband who believes in me and loves to see me covered in paint .... ok that didn't sound completely right ... but you KNOW what I mean!

It took a while to finish up the project because we were doing it ourselves when time permitted, but oh my it has been so so so worth the wait!!!  I hope to start conducting classes soon!!!

I don't have a pic of the little 1/2 bath down there ... I'll take a pic of that and get it on the blog soon.  Can you see why I love it so much?!   And it's already a complete gorgeous painty mess!!!

Heart Art Classes Coming Up!

I have two classes coming up at Elderberry Place:

This class is on 1 February from 6:30 - 8:30.  Fun with vintage book papers, paint, string and a vintage key!  The board is a 1x6 piece cut into 6x6.

This class is 6 February from 6:30 - 8:30.  It's two 5x10 panels with a mixed media background and a heart painted right on the split.  Such a cute project!!!

Pi Mi Li Retreat Aftermath

Had a wonderful time at the Print It Make It Love It Art Retreat!  It was held at the Transfiguration Spirituality Center in Glendale OH.

It really was a lot of fun and I made a friend FROM STL -- Patricia Parker!  She ended up sitting by me and we didn't even know it!  (and if I could find the @#$% pic we took together I'd post it here!)  <sigh> 

Really was a wonderful workshop and I was glad to have attended!!
